Neil Schmitz - CCRC, President
In 2007, Neil started a research department for a group of excellent Cardiologists in West Houston. Since then, he has been able to duplicate this model at other offices around the city with the help of some key individuals who share in the three core goals of the company. These individuals are featured here, and their contributions have been monumental. We are blessed with a great team.
Alex Harris - CCRC, Research Manager
Joining our Leadership Team mid-2012, Alex brought an abundance of experience and skills to our growing Research Team as well. With over a decade of experience working in many specialties and with dozens of sponsors on device and pharma studies, Alex’s contributions to the Research Team have been and will be monumental as we grow. His natural leadership skills are a perfect fit for our model of grooming coordinators for successful careers in research and in medicine. We are lucky to have him join us.
Nguyen Tang - CCRC, CRC, Quality Assurance
Nguyen enthusiastically joined the team in 2009 after graduating from the University of Texas at Austin, and has since earned his Certified Clinical Research Coordinator designation after showing a lot of dedication to his role in the clinical research enterprise. He has been the lead coordinator on numerous large trials and has performed excellently, and is now also tasked with leading our new Quality Assurance Department. Nguyen is a great teammate and has been with us from the early days of WHA CTC. He is a loyal, generous person and is a great asset to our growing team. He is fluent in English and Vietnamese.
Adelfo Cortez - Clinical Research Coordinator
Adelfo Cortez joined WHA CTC in 2009 and quickly became a research coordinator, supplementing his skills learned working as a Medical Assistant while in school. He graduated from the University of Houston while working full time with us, a testament to his work ethic and focus. Adelfo has been a valued re-addition to our team, having left for a period of time to provide family support out of town. We are lucky to have Adelfo back with us, and so are our Spanish speaking patients. Adelfo’s fluency in Spanish and English help him to relate well to our growing Hispanic population in West Houston, critical to the success of any medical team in South Texas.
Jawad Ashour - Clinical Research Coordinator
After graduating from the University of Texas at Austin, Jawad gained extensive experience with Humanitarian work through City Year, an Americorps subsidiary. His interpersonal skills and life experiences have made him an excellent fit for our growing team. Jawad has become an excellent Clinical Research Coordinator in his time with WHA CTC, with an empathy unparalleled. His skills working with people have helped him excel in his role as a mentor/trainer of new team members. He has been a great addition to our group and has been instrumental in our growth and success.
Jessica Oliver - Clinical Research Coordinator
Jessica Oliver graduated from Arizona State University in 2013 and joined our growing team at a very busy time. We were enrolling quickly in numerous large trials and needed her experience as a Medical Assistant to help us make these trials a success. She quickly learned the ropes of the clinical research enterprise and moved beyond her initial title of Research Assistant to Clinical Research Coordinator in record time. Her willingness to learn anything and everything, her attention to detail, and her compassion toward patients are some of the many skills which have led to her success on our team.
Ron Nates - Clinical Research Assistant
Ron joined us from MD Andersen Cancer Center, after graduating from Texas A&M. His previous experience combined with his great education have really made him a great addition for us. Ron was pivotal to our success in 2014, and we're excited to see him continue to grow his skills in preparation for medical school.
